Eng. Ihab Tawfik, Chairman of “Sopriyah” Natural Cosmetics, praised the important seminar organized by the Egyptian-Canadian Business Council, chaired by Eng. Moataz Raslan, under the title “Agricultural Strategy in Egypt Amid Current Challenges.” During the seminar, Mr. Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, reviewed the Ministry’s strategy to enhance food security, in the presence of a number of ministers, governors, members of parliament and senate, senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, members of the Council, and public figures.
The Minister of Agriculture affirmed that the strategy is based on expanding agricultural land, improving crop productivity, developing livestock, poultry, and fisheries, in addition to digital transformation and upgrading agricultural extension services, all aimed at achieving sustainability and increasing production.
Farouk noted that Egypt has made significant progress in the agricultural sector, with cultivated land exceeding 10 million feddans, alongside expansion in land reclamation projects and the modernization of irrigation systems. He also highlighted the achievement of high self-sufficiency rates in several food commodities, while working to increase the production of wheat, corn, and meat in the coming period.
He further pointed to the Ministry’s efforts in governing the fertilizer system through the implementation of a full electronic payment system and the activation of the “Farmer Card,” ensuring that subsidies reach eligible beneficiaries and improving efficiency.
For his part, Eng. Moataz Raslan expressed his appreciation to the Minister for accepting the invitation at a critical time, stressing that food security is no longer merely an agricultural issue, but a matter of national sovereignty linked to the state’s ability to provide safe and sustainable food for all citizens.
In the same context, Eng. Ihab Tawfik commended the seminar’s comprehensive vision and strategies for supporting Egypt’s food security system, emphasizing that the agricultural sector is a fundamental pillar not only for food production but also for supporting various related industries.
Tawfik added that the natural cosmetics industry relies directly on the quality of agricultural crops, which in turn depends on the type of fertilizers used. He noted that moving toward better governance of the fertilizer system and adopting safe and sustainable fertilizers positively impacts the quality of final products and enhances the competitiveness of Egyptian products in global markets.
He also stressed that integration between the agricultural sector and processing industries—particularly natural cosmetics—represents a significant opportunity to maximize the added value of Egyptian agricultural products, calling for greater use of organic fertilizers and modern technologies to achieve sustainability and protect both human health and the environment.
